UAE becomes 1st Gulf nation to open embassy in Israel Last Updated : 15 Jul 2021 07:05:01 AM IST The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday became the first Gulf state to open an embassy in Israel, as its envoy hailed the trade and investment opportunities that closer ties would bring at a flag-raising ceremony also attended by Israel’s president.
Brought together by shared unease about Iran, the UAE and Bahrain normalised relations with Israel last year under the “Abraham Accords” crafted by the administration of then-U.S. President Donald Trump.Sudan and Morocco have also moved to form ties with Israel. The UAE embassy opening, which is situated in the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, followed the inauguration of Israel’s embassy in the UAE last month.Mohammad Mahmoud Al Khajah, the ambassador of UAE officially presented his credentials at the beginning of March but the official opening hadn't taken place until now."It is a great honour to open the embassy here. Ten months ago our two countries signed the Abraham Accords with a vision of dignity, prosperity and peace for the two peoples," Khajah said at the ceremony Wednesday."This is just the beginning. Both countries are innovative nations and we will harness these new approaches for the prosperity of the countries", he added,For Latest Updates Please-
