England beat Denmark after controversial penalty in extra time, set up Euro 2020 final with Italy Last Updated : 08 Jul 2021 04:56:32 AM IST England's 55-year wait to reach a major men's final is over at last after victory against Denmark at Euro 2020, on a night of nerve-shredding tension then unconfined joy at Wembley.
Gareth Southgate's side were on a mission to travel one step further than any England side had done since the 1966 World Cup final win against West Germany, and they finally achieved the long-cherished goal as they came from behind to triumph in extra time. The winning goal came from striker Harry Kane, who converted the rebound of his own saved penalty kick to break a 1-1 tie midway through extra time. Denmark had vehemently protested the penalty, contending that England’s Raheem Sterling had dived to win it. But the referee disagreed, and the video-assistant referee system in place for the tournament declined to overturn the call.England will now meet Italy in the Euro 2020 final on the 12th of July at the Wembley Stadium in London. For Latest Updates Please-
