Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin was shifted from Siwan Jail to Patna amid tight security in the wee hours on Saturday.

Shahabuddin was escorted out Siwan jail around 2:45 a.m. and he is now in Beur Central Jail, Patna and from here he will be transferred to the high-security Tihar Jail in New Delhi on the Supreme Court's orders.

From Patna, Shahabuddin will be taken to the national capital and then moved into Tihar jail.


The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the criminal-turned-politician to be shifted from Bihar's Siwan jail to Tihar jail in New Delhi on the plea of the widow of slain Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.

Asha Ranjan has termed the apex court order a victory for her. Her husband was allegedly ordered killed by Shahabuddin last year.

Shahabuddin is facing trial in 45 cases. The top court had sent him back to jail on September 30, 2016, as it reversed a September 7, 2016, Patna High court order granting him bail.
