Gurugram's bustling streets deserted due to coronavirus

The 'Millennium City', having a population of over 30 lakh, turned into a ghost town after it was placed under coronavirus lockdown on Monday.

The busy routes were deserted completely as no vehicles were seen plying on the roads. Cyber City, DLF city, MG Road were marked vehicle-less zones, while Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road and Sohna Road also wore a deserted look.

Initially, in the morning hours, some autos and taxis were plying on the streets in the old city areas despite the ban. Later, the city police cracked down on the violators, forcing them to go back home.

They have also put up barricades at some intersections in a bid to block the roads. Some persons were seen walking on the streets in the absence of public transport.

A commercial bus driver said: "My vehicle is stationed in the bus depot for the past couple of days. I want to go back to my home district Rewari."

A taxi driver, seen with a face mask, said: "I was associated with cab aggregator company (Uber) here but as the city is under complete lockdown, I have decided to return to my home district Alwar."

Preet Pal Singh Sangwan, ACP of Gurugram police said: "We have given directions to the police officials on the ground take strict action against violators."
