Tasaduq Hussain Sayeed of Jammu and Kashmir's ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha ' title='Anantnag Lok Sabha '>Anantnag Lok Sabha by-election.
Accompanied by PDP leaders Muzafar Hussain Baig, Abdul Haq Khan, Abdul Rehman Veeri and Mehboob Beigh, Sayeed filed the papers before Syed Abid Rashid, the District Development Commissioner of Anantnag.
Elections in Anantnag became necessary after the seat fell vacant when Mehbooba Mufti, who represented the seat, became the Chief Minister of the state.
Sayeed is the younger brother of Mehbooba Mufti. A debutant in politics, he had been pursuing a career in Bollywood.
His main opponent will be G.A. Mir, who is the joint candidate of the Congress and the National Conference. Mir is the President of Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress.
