Indian tennis star Sania Mirza could not hoped for better finish to the year 2014. Sania Mirza first won the US Open Mixed Doubles title . It was her third Grand Slam title winning the US Open crown with Brazilian partner Bruno Soares and then declared herself “a proud Indian”.Mirza and Soares defeated American Abigail Spears and Mexico’s Santiago Gonazalez 6-1, 2-6, 11-9. Soares claimed a second US Open mixed doubles title to go with his 2012 victory with Russian Ekaterina Makarova. Mirza had lifted mixed doubles titles at the 2009 Australian Open and 2012 French Open with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi. The win at the US Open came at the back drop of raging controversy where Sania was labelled by Talengana BJP MLA as a daughter- in law of Pakistan. She silenced critics with her win and let her racquet do the talking rather then getting involved in war of words.. It was sign of a true champion. Later on on the depleted Indian tennis team for Asian Games 2014 at Incheon she was the star as she and Saketh Myneni beat top-seeded Chinese Taipei pair of Hsien Yin Peng and Hao Ching Chan 6-4, 6-3 in the Asian Games 2014 mixed doubles final. And she finished the year in grand style winning he season ending WTA finals at Singapore with her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black.
