Pakistan:Bomb blast in Lahore kills 4 and Injures 38


At least four people were killed and 38 injured including women and children on Saturday night when a timed explosive detonated amid a busy bazaar of food merchants and restaurants in the eastern city of Lahore, the police said.


Police said a good number of families were present at the Food Street when a time device exploded last night.They said the device was planted outside Bokhara restaurant. The blast damaged several food outlets in the street besides vehicles parked at nearby roads.


District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Nasim Sadiq confirmed that at least two people were killed in the blast."Two people have been killed and several injured," the DCO told the reporters. He said half kilogram explosive material had been used.


Rescue 1122, police and other civic agencies reached the spot and shifted the injured to the Mayo Hospital. Rescue 1122 spokesman Jam Sajjad told that the condition of some seven injured was critical. He also confirmed two deaths.


An eyewitness said that a large number of families dine at the food street on every week-end."I was dinning with my seven-year-old son and wife when we heard a big bang. My son fell unconscious. Thanks God he is alright," Khalid Shiekh told reporters outside the street.


Lahore Police chief Chaudhry Shafiq said those behind the blast wanted to create panic among the masses.
