Narendra Modi alleges Centre spent Rs 1880 crore on Sonia Gandhi' trips

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi unleashed a barrage of accusations against the UPA chairperson alleging that her foreign tours were funded with Rs 1,880 crore public money.

But RTI activist Ramesh Verma  has questioned his claim and  said he had not received any reply to his RTI querry.

But Sonia Gandhi will visit Rajkot on Wednesday to address a political rally

Due to the recent controversy,it is likely that attacks and counter attacks will be seen today during the rallies  as she may counter Narendra Modi's allegattions.

Meanwhile,Congress is targeting OBC communities spread across the rural and semi urban parts in the region.According to sources , UPA chairperson is likely to announce some relief package for farmers.

Narendra Modi's allegattions

Addressing the Jungadh rally, Modi said a response given by the government to an RTI application of a youth of Hisar in Haryana, published in a newspaper on July 12 this year, was the basis for his claim.

Speaking at Jesar, Modi said "to those Congress friends, who are accusing our government of uncontrolled expenditure,I want to ask: is it not true that on the foreign travels of the President of the Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi, in the past three years, Rs 1,880 crore has been spent from the public exchequer".

"This clearly means that more than the total yearly budget of Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Rajkot Municipal Corporation combined has been spent only on the foreign trips of Sonia Gandhi and on her luxury hotel stays," he added.

Sonia to visit Gandhi-Smruti

Sonia Gandhi will arrive around 10.30 am but before she addresses a farmers' convention at the Race Course ground, Gandhi will visit  'Gandhi-Smruti', the place where Mahatma Gandhiji stayed during his school days, Ramkrishna Ashram and Bal Bhavan .

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in the city, where Congress president Sonia Gandhi is going to address a farmers' convention at the Race Course ground .A team of Special Protection Group (SPG) already
arrived in the city yesterday and conducted security checks at the places that Gandhi is expected to visit, a senior police
official said.

"As many as 1,000 policemen have been deployed at the venue as well as on the roads that Gandhi would pass through
to visit various places in the city," the official said.

Cong says Modi is lying

Slamming Narendra Modi's claim that public funds were spent on travel and treatment abroad of Sonia Gandhi, Congress today said it was a "white lie" and had revealed BJP's "cheap intentions", but sidestepped questions on the expenses involved and who incurred them.

"Whatever has been said in the public space is completely untrue, false and a white lie and time will tell that what we have said today is completely true," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters when asked as to how much money was spent for the purpose and by whom.

Tell us the amount spent on Sonia's travel abroad: BJP

BJP alleged that instead of coming clear on whether expenses for UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's travel and treatment were paid from public exchequer and what was the amount spent, Congress is diverting attention by saying the  opposition is raising issues about her health.

"We condemn the Congress party's approach in diverting and adding issues which have not been raised by Gujarat Chief Minister (Narendra Modi). He has very clearly quoted media sources and raised a question. If you are genuinely interested in answering the question, you would say what was the amount spent," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
