One person killed and three others injured when a speeding car driven by a teenager rammed into them near Delhi's Kashmiri Gate early Thursday morning.
The class 12th student, who was celebrating with friends after finishing exams, lost his control and drove the Hyundai i20 on pavement.
The incident occurred at 5.45 a.m. But Police Control Room received the information at 6.15 a.m. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
Three others identified as Asif, Karan and Sanjay were also critically injured. They were admitted at the Sushruta Trauma Centre near Civil Lines.The speeding vehicle climbed on the footpath near the ISBT Hanuman Mandir and mowed down several people sleeping there.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, North district, Jatin Narwal said that locals caught the driver after the accident and handed him over to the police.
Narwal said the driver claimed to be a teenager. He is a resident of Model Town in north Delhi. The DCP, however, has refused to reveal his name until the age was confirmed.
"We are verifying his age. He told us that he was accompanied by his two friends," Narwal said.
"He was driving his friend's father's car. His friends fled the scene after the accident," Narwal told media.
The police was conducting blood test of the accused driver to know whether he was inebriated at the time of the incident.
The victims appear to be daily wagers, the police said. A case has been registered at the Kashmere Gate Police Station and investigation is on.Saharasamay Desk/IANS For Latest Updates Please-
