Gujarat assembly results to impact 2014 Lok Sabha Polls? Last Updated : 20 Dec 2012 10:21:06 AM IST Gujarat assembly results to impact 2014 Lok Sabha Polls?
The outcome of Gujarat assembly elections results 2012 will impact the 2014 Lok sabha elections in a big way as the ruling BJP is set to perform a hat-trick in Gujarat .
Official trends in the counting of votes that began this morning projected Chief Minister Narendra Modi capturing power for the third consecutive time worsting Congress.
The BJP was projected as leading in as many as 104 seats while the Congress was leading in 59. The NCP was leading in one while 'others' including the Gujarat Parivartan Party headed by Keshubhai Patel in four.
In the 182-member Assembly, the BJP had won 117 in the last elections in 2007 while Congress got 59.
The factors which are influencing the results in Gujarat assembly elections 2012 -inflation,corruption cases of UPA, fuel price hike and the decision to put a cap on the subsidised LPG cylinders and the most recent is the FDI in multi brand retail .
The Congress has three major problems.Corruption, inflation, the lack of a natural Prime Ministerial candidate. Second, strong anti-incumbency after years of misgovernance.
Other factor is the Arving kejriwal's Aam Admi Party. In 2014 elections, voters will montor the report card of UPA's second term of administration. And strong campaign by Anna and kejriwal would bring some major changes in the wining constituencies number of all the parties.
The factors that will imapct 2014 Lok Sabha elections will be the crimes against women that have assumed the proportions of an epidemic in nation's cities , FDI in retail which the oppsition feels that this decision of UPA will kill the small investors .
In 1999, , the BJP won 23.75% voteshare and 182 seats. In 1998 it had won 25.59% voteshare but the same number of seats.
To regain the confidence of investors , the Prime Minister Manmohan SIngh took stern decisions like FDI in multi brand retail, fuel price hike and the decision to put a cap on the subsidised LPG cylinders which have inturn burdened the common man.
The Prime Minister also invoked the 1991 crisis, saying the country must not forget it.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the outcome of Gujarat StateAssembly elections should not be seen as a reflection on the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held in 2014.
"The state election is a state election and it should not be seen as a reflection of parliament polls," Omar told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
He said a classic example of this was the outcome of last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh."Congress did better in terms of the number of seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh but did not do as well when the same people voted in the Assembly polls.
Parliament election is a different chapter because the elections are held at national level," he said. The chief minister refused to comment on the exit polls which have predicted a hat-trick of wins for BJP in Gujarat.
"Opinion polls as we know can be wrong at times. We will see when the results are declared," Omar said in response to a question about the performance of Congress in Gujarat.
