Salman Khurshid to counter Kejriwal on Sunday Last Updated : 14 Oct 2012 10:59:06 AM IST Salman Khurshid to counter Kejriwal on Sunday
Union Minister Salman Khurshid said "he has nothing to hide and will not give in to blackmailers". He is to hold a press conference at 3 pm on Sunday to counter the charges levelled by Kejriwal.
Law Minister Salman Khurshid returned to the capital on Sunday from abroad and said he will fight back the allegations that
his NGO siphoned off money meant for disabled with sufficient proof.he Law Minister faced protests at IGI airport on Sunday
morning where activists of Kejriwal-led India Against Corruption raised slogans against him.
The war of attrition between Kejriwal and Khurshid escalated as the activist kejriwal continued his indefinite agitation at central Delhi's Parliament Street demanding the Minister's resignation and arrest over alleged financial irregularities in his NGO.
But Khurshid rubbished allegations and remarked that he has nothing to hide," and he will not "give in to blackmailers."and advised Kejriwal of stop doing politics using the shoulders of the disabled
Rubbishing kejriwal's allegation, Law Minister Salman Khurshid has hit back saying "doing politics using the shoulders of the disabled" saying he has nothing to hide.
"Frankly nothing... nothing to hide. We have all the facts and I know personally, and these are camps... I have personally gone," he said here.
"Many of the officials that are being quoted or used to support the case that no camps were held, their picture are rare... And to all, I'll show that picture," he said.
Hitting out at his detractors, he said, "While in my own country... third-rate people are doing third-rate things."
Congress rejects demand for Khurshid's resignation
Congress rejected demands for salman Khurshid resignation and dismissed as "untruth" the charges of irregularities levelled against the Minister's NGO by Arvind Kejriwal. "Untruth cannot become the basis for crucifying anybody.Till court pronounces...everyone enjoys equal protection. They are innocent till proved guilty," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters.
Khurshid has already knocked at the door of law and has already initiated certain civil proceedings and criminal proceedings are under contemplation, Tewari said.
The raging war of words is centred around a controversy after a sting operation was conducted by a news channel over alleged financial irregularities and forgery in the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust - headed by Khurshid and run by his wife Louise - that is meant to help disabled people in Uttar Pradesh,a charge denied by the couple.
Taking on from this, Arvind Kejriwal demanded that Khurshid be asked to resign from the Union Cabinet and be arrested along with his wife.
Allegations baseless, says Khurshid's wife
Khurshid's wife Louise, the project director of the NGO Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, lashed out at Kejriwal, terming the allegations of "money bungling" as "baseless innuendos" and accused him of "doing politics using the shoulders of the disabled".
She also trashed speculation about her husband resigning over the issue, saying there is no reason why her husband should step down. "There is no inquiry against Khurshid either by the central government or any report by the CAG. So why should he step down?" Louise said.
She also dared Kejriwal to visit the camps run by her NGO to prove the alleged bunglings. "Arvind Kejriwal is an ambulance chaser...he is making all sorts of allegations...Does Kejriwal know what our trust does since 1986?..Source: IANS, Other Agencies, Staff Reporters
