Year 2010: Erosion of Manmohan's Charishma
Last Updated : 26 Dec 2010 02:00:20 PM IST
India in the year 2010
Some rose in fame, others vanished in thin air

Like all years, 2010 also brought with it many colours. If the year threw many personalities in high visibility, it also presided over the destruction of many a reputations.

If Nitish Kumar by his victory gave a clear signal that politics can not be taken for granted as Lalu Yadav did, the year also whispered in the ears of ND Tiwary ,once a  successful Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh that you have to atone for your misdeeds sooner or later.

If highly visible leader like Amar Singh was pushed to margin by the year, it saw the fluctuating fortunes of Rahul Gandhi from hero to zero in UP and Bihar election respectively. If Shashi Tharoor blazed like a meteor on political horizon, P Chidambaram was seen consolidating his position inch by inch.

Basking in the glory of UPA 1 success both Manmohan Singh and Sonia looked comfortable in the beginning of the year but their state of bliss was soon shaken once the corruption charges against congress leaders began to flood in. Chief Minsters and Union Ministers were sent packing yet the shadow of corruption could not be dispelled. A broken PM looked half his original self in the later part of the Year, though Sonia with bravado roared from the podium of Planery session with charges and counter charges against the Opposition.

For BJP also the year proved eventless as experiment with new face of Nitin Gadkari did not enthuse the cadre. The Party’s effort to to throw a credible leader at national level remained unfulfilled with the troika of Sushma-Jaitly and Anant still calling shots in the Party. The cadre has no face at national level to look upon as Chrisma of Bajpai and Advani are not happening to party any more.
But Mayawati remained the real gainer with a supporter buying 3 acres of land for her on moon as birth day gift. Mulayam Singh had no such luck with Azam ,Amar and Kalyan bleeding into the veins of Samajvadi Party.

Sharad Pawar also cannot forget 2010 easily as the IPL politics around him got so hot that he talked of relinquishing minister-ship. Be it Karunanidhi or Yedurappa, Roshaiya or Jagan the year had more bad luck in stores than good ones.

But in the enhancing void created by ineffectual executive power what moved forward to fill up the gap was judiciary which upturned many a decisions and restored sanity on umpteen occasions.
