Millions of Muslims across the world are taking part in Eid al-Fitr celebrations to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.The three-day-long Eid al-Fitr holiday is a time tocelebrate the completion of Ramadan, a month devoted to worship and repentance during which observing Muslims abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset every day.The festivities involve thanksgiving, merriment, feasting and the exchange of gifts and traditionally begin upon the sighting of the new moon. The first Eid al-Fitr was celebrated in 624 CE by the Prophet Muhammad and his compatriots after the battle of Badar.
